| What is
Network Science? |
Network Science is “the study of network representations of physical, biological, and social phenomena leading to predictive models…Initiation of a field of network science would…provide a body of rigorous results [to] improve predictability of engineering design…and also speed up basic research…”
from the National Research Council.

 |
| Purpose |
The purpose of the Network Science Center at West Point is three-fold: First, to bring together service members, civilians, cadets, and the Academic community to contribute to the emerging discipline of Network Science; Second, to address Army-specific and related Network Science challenges; and Third, to provide relevant educational opportunities for current and future Army leaders. |

 |
|
Vision |
The vision of the Network Science Center is to be a nationally-recognized center for excellence. A Center which promotes an aggressive program of basic and applied science, maintains a leadership role in Network Science education, serves as a focal point for collaboration among Network Science experts, and effectively provide resources for the experimental testing of new ideas that may address Army needs.

|
|
 |
| Goals |
The goals of
the Network Science include the
fostering of relationship and
facilitation of communication in
order to establish and lead a
community amongst both the Network
Science researchers and the West
Point faculty and staff among
departments; acting as a interface
between the Army and Network
Science; achieving the appropriate
emphasis on Network Science in
cadet and faculty development at
West Point; sponsoring cadet and
faculty projects; and excelling in
research on net-centric operations
to include the interaction between
information and social networks.
